About
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at BGIET was established in 2003, introducing the B.Tech (Mechanical Engineering) program from the academic year 2003–2004 and subsequently launching the M.Tech (Mechanical Engineering) program from 2011–2012. Since its inception, the department has made significant contributions to society by supplying technical manpower to various sectors in India and abroad. Graduates and postgraduates from the department have secured esteemed positions globally, a testament to the quality education provided. The department is currently proud to attract the best merit students in the region, with its courses accredited by IKG, PTU Jalandhar, and approved by AICTE.
Comprising qualified, motivated, and experienced faculty members, the department fosters a culture of research and industry interaction alongside teaching responsibilities. Faculty members actively contribute to research endeavors, publishing papers in esteemed International and National Journals. Regular technical workshops are organized to expose faculty to emerging areas, ensuring that students receive cutting-edge education and research insights. The department’s infrastructure includes state-of-the-art laboratories, a well-equipped department library, and e-learning-enabled classrooms. A centralized workshop facility caters to the diverse needs of various departments, while guest lectures and industrial visits enrich the curriculum, providing students with practical insights into mechanical engineering practices. Emphasizing all-round excellence, the department encourages students to engage in extracurricular activities and has established the Society of Mechanical Engineers (SOME) to facilitate academic endeavors through seminars, competitions, and industrial visits.
